Living with American Eskimo Dogs

Living with American Eskimo dogs under one roof has its pros and cons.
Don't take me wrong, I do love my dogs, but it's lifetime commitment and sacrifices.
I know that the puppy Eskie looks so cute but with those cuteness comes lots of responsibilities: walking, feeding, combing(they can sheeeeeed), going to vet, etc.

American Eskimo is a very active dog and needs a lot of exercises, walk to the dog park or forest and you have to do it on daily basis - not just sometimes. If you don't give Eskimo enough of exercise,  your dog may discover problems.
Bored Eskie is unhappy and may dig or chew or bark in an effort to entertain themselves. About my dogs: even long forest walk doesn't make them tired, they come back at the apartment and both demand play time!

During the winter, when you may prefer to stay at home, your American Eskimo dog(s) could have an absolutely different idea. Long walk during snow is perfect for them.

If you are taking your dog/s for a walk to dogs park or forest, you also have to add cleaning your car more often to keep it clean. Eskies hair is everywhere!

Let's go for a walk finally!

We play/exercise inside as well!

Eskies are very loyal dogs and need to be around their owners. They bond with their human(s) for a life. Both, Angie and Buddy, are always around me, like a shadow following me everywhere and helping me or inspecting my daily activities.

They shed a lot. Eskies need lots of grooming, brushing to prevent matting. You have to vacuum and/or mop your household often to clean hair left around the house. If you have trusted groomer, you can ask about special deshedding treatment service for your Eskie- that helps a lot.

American Eskimo are dogs with character, they could be very not-friendly to other dogs and strangers. A lot depends from an individual dog and from early socializing. They also need their own space, and even dogs who know each other can be aggressive toward each other over "their own" space. My dogs have their own spots in bed(yes, they sleep with us). If one Eskie for some reason goes to another dog's spot, it usually finishes with a fight.

They can be stubborn. Adding a fact that they are highly intelligent and inquisitive, you have to be strong pack leader to not let them manipulate you and boss you around. The dog is easy to train, earns new tasks quickly and is eager to please. But you have to put discipline and rules to follow for your Eskies.

Really? That's not allowed? But it was fun!

Eskies make excellent watchdogs and are suspicious of strangers, some can bark excessively. Our Angie is a good example of that. Buddy is less of a barker. On the other hand, Angie is a very friendly to our neighbors and strangers, Buddy opposite.
